House of the month

This is what Wingham is all about!

Driving around our beautiful area… one can’t help noticing places for sale. We spotted this charming cottage that just shouts… “Look At Me! I’m SO Wingham!”

This beautiful colonial-style cottage is surrounded by colourful gardens and sits on a large 1,111m2 corner block with laneway access at the rear.

The white picket fence and the English country gardens are the perfect setting for this lovely home. Inside it has the mellow mood only older homes with polished original hardwood floors and leadlight can give.

It has high ceilings, two large bedrooms plus a spare room which has been set up as an extra bedroom previously, and the funky original cupboards are a real feature of the large eat-in country style kitchen.

The home still has its original stained glass windows for the classic touch of colour, the bathroom has had a renovation to fit perfectly with the history of the home. The back verandah faces north with louvered windows to adjust the breeze (though there is air conditioning) and is the perfect spot to catch the morning sun with your cup of tea and a good book!
The back garden is magic with rose gardens, colourful flower beds and raised vegie gardens beside the garage. Wandering around exploring the garden you’ll find a huge variety of plants and flowers as well as several sitting areas where you can relax in the peaceful surroundings. No prizes for guessing the owner has very green thumbs. In fact the owner is a florist and is looking for more space to expand her garden supply.

These are the type of homes and the “look” we should be promoting and preserving in Wingham – the heritage town.  No one builds homes like this anymore. They’re treasures. And rare.  We need to look after them and at least build new homes that try to recapture this heritage, history and harmonious style!
