Dear Editor,
No Overnight Stays at the Brush
I would like to endorse the sentiments expressed by Tony Ryan published in your newspaper in relation to Overnight Stays in the reserve adjacent to the Wingham Brush.
MidCoast Council has a critical role in ensuring that the land bordering the Brush is used in a manner which protects the Nature Reserve and minimises any potential damage to it.
It is important also, that Council respects the Regeneration Team and its many hours of volunteer work there now spanning 38 years of effort. A buffer zone with bollards needs to be put around the outskirts of his area to protect it.
There is already heavy local usage of the riverbank by boaters, fishers and picnickers. The unsightly assemblage of caravans and recreation vehicles, the owners often with dogs, not only leads to congestion, but destroys the ambiance of the area. This zone has always been envisaged as a passive picnic area.
I strong urge Council to rescind approval for Overnights Stays in this area.
